ABOUT ME

I am Clara Domínguez Lerena. Visual artist and writer. I was born in 1975. I studied psychopedagogy and after a few years landscaping. Psychopedagogy taught me, among other things, to observe and pay attention to processes and have a keen eye. By studying landscape design I learned about space, aesthetics and nature.

Statement

I contemplate what surrounds me.

I put the focus on the instant the light hits the matter. At that point, reality is revealed and photography emerges, which can be transformed into a plastic work or word. Light marks a path in my practice that is why the materials are transparent and in the superimposition I find the possibility of expanding the gaze.

I draw a poetic map of that illuminated journey. It turns out to be a search for what moves me and in doing so I evolve.

Contemplate the Rio de la Plata. A river that lives silently and opens to the light to enter my camera. I photograph her gestures. When it is surrounded by fog and is a mantle caressed by the sun. When it is shore, root, green and hides secrets in its depth. When it beats and is a lullaby on the coast. When it is a mirror. The river is day, the river is night. The river is always. Getting into their harmony and letting ourselves go requires our gestures. Hold up a piece of tissue paper to check your pulse. Illuminate its coasts with a flashlight and even in the dark know that it is a reference. Take a magnifying glass. Discover that the river houses, that it is home. Go through it with the light, bring its light here.

The river, it is. All. The river.
